Long ago, on an island far away,
somewhere in the South Pacific,
lived a people called the Trids.

The island had very few trees or bushes
but was covered with grass.
The Trids learned to harvest the grass
and consume the grass as their only food.

The Trids were very small
and lived only on one side of the island
for, on the other side of the island,
lived a huge giant.

Of course, the grass on the giant's side of the island
was long, and full, and deep green, and so sweet.
But the grass on the Trid's side of the island
was short, and anemic, and yellow, and bitter.

From time to time,
when the Trids would tire of their grass,
some would sneak over to the other side
of the island to steal some of the good grass.

Without exception, every time a Trid did this
he would be caught by the giant!
And the giant was so mean, he would kick the Trid.
And he would kick the Trid so hard,
the Trid would land on the other side of the island.

One day, after many failed attempts by the Trids,
they approached the Rabbi.
"Rabbi," they said so pitifully,
"you must go and get us some of that
long, luscious, green grass
from the other side of the island!"

"No!" said the Rabbi in alarm.
"Why, if the giant catches me, he will kick me,
and kick me all the way back to this side of the island!"
But the Trids would not give up.
They begged. They pleaded with the poor Rabbi.

Finally the Rabbi agreed to pull his cart
to the other side of the island
and harvest as much grass as he could,
just as quickly as he could,
for all the pitiful little Trids.

The Rabbi very cautiously, but very quickly,
sliced the grass and stacked it into his cart,
all the while glancing about
so as not to be surprised by the giant.

Just then, a huge shadow
loomed over the exhausted Rabbi!
The Rabbi turned to see
the giant towering over him!

Why are you shaking so, Rabbi?"
thundered the great giant.

Terrified, the Rabbi replied sheepishly,
"Aren't you going to kick me,
and kick me all the way
to the other side of the island?"

The giant laughed and said,
"Silly Rabbi!
Kicks are for Trids!"
